Localization Terms & Conditions

General

I provide English → Spanish game localization for indie projects. I can work with Neutral Spanish, Latin American Spanish, or European Spanish.

I aim to provide a natural Spanish localization while preserving the original tone, character voices, humor, terminology, and overall style of the game.

Project Requirements

Before accepting a project, I need the following information:

  • The approximate number of translatable strings.
  • The expected deadline, if there is one.
  • Basic information about the project.
  • A public project page, store page, website, or other information that allows me to verify the project.

The source material should be complete or mostly complete before localization begins.

Once I start working, the original English text should be considered final. Changes to the source text after localization has started will generally be treated as new or modified strings and may be charged accordingly.

Minor typos in the original text are an exception and can be corrected without additional charges.

Source Language & Context

I only accept projects with English as the source language.

If the project uses a particular form or variety of English, such as archaic English, dialects, or other intentional language styles, please let me know beforehand.

The client is responsible for providing the necessary context for the text being localized. This includes information needed to properly understand characters, situations, terminology, jokes, UI elements, or ambiguous phrases.

If important context is missing, I will contact the client with a list of the information I need.

The client will have 5 days to respond. If I receive no response, I will send a final notice and allow another 7 days for a response. If there is still no response, the project will be considered cancelled and any refund will be calculated according to the amount of work already completed.

Accepted File Formats

I currently accept editable localization files such as:

  • CSV
  • JSON
  • Excel / XLSX

I do not accept non-editable source material such as PDFs, screenshots, images, or other formats that require the text to be manually reconstructed into an editable file.

Only translatable strings count toward the project total. Comments, empty entries, variables, or other non-translatable elements are not counted.

Pricing

I keep my rates affordable to make localization accessible to indie developers.

$3 USD for up to 50 translatable strings.

After the first 50 strings, the price increases by $1 USD for every additional 20 strings, or part thereof.

Payment

Payment is handled through PayPal.

For larger projects, I generally use a 50/50 payment structure:

  • 50% before work begins.
  • 50% upon completion, before the final localized files are delivered.

For very small projects, full payment may be requested upfront.

Work begins once the initial payment has been received.

Revisions & Corrections

The price covers the localization itself. It does not include testing or implementation of the translated text in the game.

After delivery, the client may send messages reporting errors found in the localization. These corrections are free of charge:

  • Up to 5 correction messages for standard projects.
  • Up to 10 correction messages for larger projects.

Each message may contain as many relevant errors as necessary.

These corrections are intended for actual localization errors. New translation requests, major rewrites, or changes to the original English text are not considered corrections and may require additional payment.

Post-Release Updates

I offer reduced rates for updates to games I have already localized.

Up to 15 new or modified strings are free.

After that, each additional 15 strings costs $1 USD.

Cancellation & Inactivity

If a project is cancelled before work begins, the client will receive a full refund, minus any payment-processing fees that cannot be recovered.

If work has already started, the refund will be calculated according to the amount of work completed at the time of cancellation.

Projects with 14 consecutive days without activity may be considered cancelled.

If a project is waiting for information from the client, the separate context-response procedure described above will apply.

Credits

The client agrees to credit me as:

Sutori

in the game's credits.

Portfolio

I may include completed localization projects in my portfolio once the game has been publicly released and has a public store page.

My portfolio will link to the game's official store page rather than hosting the game's assets myself.

I will not publish private or unreleased game material. The game's existing promotional cover art may be used as a portfolio image when appropriate.

Ownership

Once the agreed payment has been completed, the client owns the resulting Spanish localization and may use, modify, publish, and distribute it as they wish.
